6 Countries Represented

The eight finalist teams represented six African countries: Tunisia, Kenya, Namibia, Ethiopia, Algeria, and Cameroon. Together, they showcased 9 finalist projects and 5 Core Development projects.

From Workshops to the Grand Finale

The hackathon began with a series of workshops introducing participants to generative AI tools, techniques, and best practices. Industry experts from leading tech companies guided participants through the fundamentals, helping them envision how AI could solve real-world problems unique to the African context.

From there, participants formed teams and began developing their project ideas. The quarterfinals narrowed the field, with the most promising projects advancing to the semifinals. During this intensive phase, teams received dedicated mentorship from advisors with deep domain expertise - helping them refine their solutions, strengthen their technical architecture, and prepare compelling presentations.

The eight finalist teams earned their place at the Grand Finale in Addis Ababa. There, they pitched their solutions to a distinguished jury panel that included UC Berkeley Professor Jelani Nelson and Northeastern University's Ricardo Baeza-Yates. The event was a celebration of African ingenuity, with teams presenting solutions spanning healthcare, education, agriculture, and financial inclusion.

Participants demonstrated a resilient spirit despite facing infrastructure obstacles. The hackathon functioned as a bridge connecting dreams to tangible digital solutions, nurturing emerging African tech leaders.
